Need New Disk Utility For My Mac
Hello everyone, So as you all already know, Disk Utility changed quite a bit with El Capitan - this is old news. Similar to what Apple did with iWork (and some other applications), they stripped down Disk Utility and ended up removing key features. Apparently, you can only - in SOME cases - make disk images; you can't copy disks to each other; and it also (apparently) lacks a feature for RAID. Some even say that current features are buggy. Luckily, a guide was made on how to trick the previous version of Disk Utility into thinking that it isn't running on El Capitan; this way, you can enjoy the old DU - before Apple decided to. Short version: I need a bootable copy of Disk Utility that I can burn to a CD and use. Best vpn for mac 2015. I'm away from home and unwisely didn't bring my OS dvds. I've searched high and low for a place to download it without luck. Your new Disk Image will appear in the list on the left of the Disk Utility window. Eject the original DVD disc from your Mac. Insert a writable DVD disc into your Mac. Launch Disk Utility and then click to select the external hard drive listed on the left. Click the 'Erase' tab, choose a volume format from the drop-down menu and then type a name for the drive. The Mac OS X Extended volume format is optimal for Macs; the Journaled option enables the system to log and keep track of files.

If you happen to encounter any issues with this version of DU, on El Cap, please report them on this thread. It should not have a reason to be unstable, but one can never know. Anyway, enjoy the previous version of Disk Utility again! This is a great way to flip-off Apple for turning your utilities into ultra-consumer-ish garbage.
On a different note, if you think that Disk Utility became screwed up, look what happened with Pages. The list of things they added to Pages is about a few lines long.
