Sync Mac Address Book With Outlook 2016 For Mac
The Outlook for Mac will automatically create and assign categories if you have your Address Book contacts in groups. To avoid notes and photos from backing up in the VCF file, deselect the 'Export notes in vCards' and 'Export photos in vCards' options from Contacts > Preferences > vCard.
I have been trying to populate outlook address book on facetime, so all users have same list of contact as Exchange Global address book. Usually, personal contact on outlook does sync with contact on Icoud which eventually reflects on FT. One challenge is to apply same contacts list as OAB to all individual contacts, so users do not have to make changes to employee left or joined, if the contacts could be pushed from global address book to individual users address book except for the owner of the company whose address book is maintained by PA and has all clients address list.

One of the problems with Outlook for mac is that it won't synchronize Exchange hosted contact lists. Furthermore, the Global Address List (or GAL) seems to be available only as a search field, rather than a window displaying the entire list as it does on a PC. So, one potential solution would be to have either a PC user or the server admin try to capture the GAL somehow and export it to a CSV, LDIF or vcard file. Then that file could be made available to the employees, who in turn import it into the Contacts app on the Mac.
In theory, it only needs to be updated when there is a change in the employee database. Based on my research, the answer is no. As I mentioned above, there is no synchronization between Exchange hosted contact lists and Mac address book directly. This, apparently, goes for the GAL as well.
The only way I can see it working is via a manual intervention by either a PC user or the server admin. The good news is that big push of contacts need only be done once. Subsequent changes could be handled one at a time or with much smaller files.

There are no doubt several 3rd party solutions that might work but: - that is extra cost - I cannot vouch for any of them as I have not tried them. Importing the CSV into Apple Address Book is the best - if not the only - way to do it. It will automatically go to the cloud if the user's Mac is set up with an iCloud account. If all users have the same iCloud account, then pushing it once will guarantee that they all get it. Failing that, the manual push to all users (via shared server, email or other method) will work.
If there is high turnover at the company, then I would suggest a script (PC side) be written to glean the info from the GAL and exported to a CSV file. It could be run as often as needed.
